Unity in the Foothills
Torrington, CT
Unity in the Foothills, a member of the Association of Unity Churches, serves as a peace center and spiritual beacon for its members and the surrounding area. We are a vibrant, growing community offering spiritual services and Youth Education every Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Unity in the Foothills honors everyone's individual spiritual journey and pathway to God and believes that God is good and omnipresent. We are dedicated to continuing the dream we share with our recently retired minister and co-founder, Reverend Bonny, of co-creating a world that works for all.
We are guided by a five-member Board of Trustees who, along with many volunteer committees, ensures the continuous smooth operations of our community. While we greatly miss Reverend Bonny, our Worship Committee has planned dynamic spiritual leaders to guest minister our services every Sunday throughout September. Unity in the Foothills team of professional musicians provides alternate methods of prayer and constantly dazzle us with their gifts. Our Search Committee has been working hard to bring a new minister into our congregation.
During our transition, we continue to provide prayer groups and spiritual classes thanks to the assistance and expertise of our Licensed Unity Teacher. We also have a pot luck picnic, bon fire and drumming circle event planned in August, our yearly picnic at Burr Pond in September and our annual banquet in November. There is no shortage of fun and strong feelings of community bonding and friendship within our group which we look forward to sharing with new members.
Most importantly, we are very excited and proud about our enhanced community outreach. We provide canned food and financial assistance to our local food bank. We participated in Torrington's first "Day of the Child" event and are looking forward to once again assisting the Torrington Early Childhood Collaborative provide "back to school" clothing and supplies to needy local children. In addition, we have been donating Christmas presents to Torrington children for five years now. We host the very popular "Conscious Evolution" Meet-up group each month, and we hosted Souls4Soles, a charity collecting gently used shoes to distribute free of charge to people in need all over the world. We have participated with Kiva.org, an online microfinance initiative and are currently investigating participation in a community clean up effort as well as other endeavors.
Please come and visit us, especially during this exciting transitional time in our lives. We are always happy to welcome and accept new like minded people into our fold. We see endless possibilities in the world around us and cannot wait for you to be part of it!

Bonny & Chris
Founders of Unity in the Foothills
Unity in the Foothills was founded by Rev. Bonny Gilbert Ashe and Christopher O'Brien Ashe. The first Sunday Celebration was held in January 2004 in a room rented for Sunday morning at the Northwest Connecticut Chamber of Commerce in Torrington CT. After about two months in that location the church moved into rented space at Daycoeton Place in Torrington. In 2005 the church purchased and renovated its current building at 102 Prospect Street in Torrington. The first vested members of the church were inducted in 2005 and the first Board of Trustees was elected in 2006.
In June 2010, Bonny and Chris happily retired to Bonny's first spiritual home of Arizona. Unity in the Foothills continues to grow and prosper as we pursue our vision and goals. We look forward to welcoming you into our spiritual family.
